Napoleon Frog (Apple Store)

1. Introduction
Napoleon Frog is the card game of Napoleon (Tricktaking game) with a friendly frog (named Kaeru-san).
The card game of Napoleon is a strategical game.
It is divided into Napoleon team and Union team, and they struggle for the 20 scoring cards (A, K, Q, J and 10 of each suit).
The rule is little bit difficult. But if understand it, it is very interesting.
There are many local rules, and Napoleon Frog includes them.
If you like the card game of the poverty, you will understand strategical interest of Napoleon.
Of course beginners also will like it. And Tutorial mode is prepared for them.
I am pleased if you get interested in Napoleon with cute Kaeru-san.


2. Overview of the game
Players are YOU and 4 frogs.
At first, you choose a play round(s). (You can change rules and settings here.)
Napoleon Frog is played with 52-card pack and a Joker.
Each player gets 10 cards. The last two or three cards are put face-down in the middle of the table.
The play circles clockwise. Napoleon leads to the first trick, and winner of each trick leads to the next.
At first we decide Napoleon by The Napoleon declaration. Anyone can be Napoleon. (See 3. The Napoleon declaration and the Adjutant)
The Napoleon declaration is to declare a suit and a number of points.
Player who take more difficult conditions becames Napoleon.
If you do not want to be Napoleon, you can pass. (Any number of time.)
Napoleon chooses a partner by calling any card.
Player that holds this card is the Adjutant. The Adjutant is a member of Napoleon team and cooperates Napoleon.
After selecting the Adjutant Card, Napoleon picks up the blind, and discards the same number of sheets.
Sometimes the Adjutant card is in the blind. If so, Napoleon has to play alone.
If the Get Discard option is on, there is a strategy that Napoleon discards the score cards and will get them in the first trick by a win.
Players that are neither Napoleon nor the Adjutant are Union team. They cooperate each other.
Napoleon leads to the first trick, and the winner will be decided after 5 players led. (See 5. Play game)
The winner gets the scoring cards. (A, K, Q, J and 10 of each suit)
The winner of each trick leads to the next.
After repeating 10 tricks, If Napoleon team gets the number of points or more than the declaration, they win.
The other three players form a team whose aim is to prevent Napoleon and the Adjutant from fulfilling the bid.
If Napoleon team takes all 20 cards, they lose. (This rule can be changed in the Rules & Settings. See 12. Rule of Completion.)
The records show after all the rounds.


3. The Napoleon declaration and the Adjutant
The latest winner begins Napoleon declaration. (At first, from you.)
Napoleon declaration is to declare a suit and a number of points (from 11 to 20).
A player wants to be Napoleon can be it by outbidding.
The suits ranking in ascending order: clubs, diamonds, hearts, spades.
A higher number outbids a lower number, and between bids of the same number, a higher suit outbids a lower suit.
For example: A player declare a heart13, other players have to outbid a spade13, a heart14, a dia14 or a club14.
If No Trump mode is on, players can declare a number of points without a suit.
It precedes a declaration with a suit.
For example: No trump 14 outbids Spade 14.
Napoleon chooses a partner by calling any card.
The holder of this called card is the Adjutant, and is Napoleon's partner for the hand.
Except the Adjutant, no body knows who the Adjutant is. Of course, Napoleon does not.
The union player does not identity friends until the called card is played.


4. The Special Cards and the Joker
There are three Special Cards. The mighty (A of Spade) is the highest. The next is the Regular Jack (Trump jack) then the Sub Jack (jack of the same color as Trumps).
If Napoleon declares with a trump, the jack of the Trump is the Regular Jack, and the jack of the same color is the Sub Jack.
If Napoleon have not declared, it is no trump in the round. (See 6. No trump)
For example, if the Trump is dia, the Regular Jack is the jack of dia, and the Sub Jack is the jack of heart.
The Special Cards do not yet have their special status as high cards in the first trick. (Same as normal cards.)
(The first trick rules (Enable the Joker leads. Enable the Special Cards. Enable the Same 2) can be changed in the settings.)

If the Joker option is on in the settings, the power of the Joker depends on the Joker Rank.
Joker Rank 0: It's the highest card.
Joker Rank 1: It's strong to the next of the Mighty.
Joker Rank 2: It's strong to the next of the Mighty and the Regular Jack.
Joker Rank 3: It's strong to the next of the three Special Cards.
Joker Rank 4: It's strong to the next of Trump cards.
Joker Rank 5: It's the weakest card. (But if the Joker leads as the Trump and other players discard no Special Card and no Trump, the Joker wins.)
Exceptions of the Joker Rank :
Normal: The power of the Joker depends on the Joker Rank.
Leading Joker is the strongest: The Joker becomes the strongest when it leads. Otherwise it depends on the order of the Joker Rank.
The Joker is the weakest when it NOT lead: The Joker becomes the weakest when it NOT lead. Otherwise it is the order of the Joker Rank.
(The Joker Hunter wins the Joker all the time.)(See 8. Joker Call / Joker Hunter)
If the Special Cards option in the first trick is on, the Strength of the Joker depends on the Joker Rank.
If the Joker is led, the suit of the Leading Card is the Trump in the trick. (The Leading Card : It is the card that is led in each trick.)
But if the Choice of the Leading Suit option is on, the Leading Suit can be specified when the Joker leads.
Although leading the Joker to the first trick is forbidden. But if the Joker leads option in the first trick is on, it is possible.
If you don't have any cards of the same suit of the Leading Card, you have to discard the Joker. But if the Joker anytime option is on, you can use every card.


5. Play game
Napoleon leads to the first trick, and the play circles clockwise. The card is led in each trick is the Leading Card.
Throughout the play it is compulsory to follow the suit. And if the player who has no card of the same suit of the Leading Card, the player can play every card.
The Joker can follow to every card.
The player played with the highest card wins in the trick, and gets the scoring cards. (A, K, Q, J and 10)
The card ranking is the Joker (Rank0) (if Joker option is on.), the mighty, the Joker (Rank1), the Regular Jack, the Joker (Rank2), the Sub Jack, the Joker (Rank3), the Same 2, Different 7, the A-2 of the Trump, the Joker (Rank4), Different 3, the A-2 of the Leading Suit, A-2 of the rest and the Joker (Rank5).
The Same 2 is that all the players play same suit in a trick, including the 2 of the suit. The 2 of the suit wins.
But the Same 2 can not win the three Special Cards, and does not effect in the first trick. (It can change whether the Same 2 in the first trick is effective or invalid in the settings.) (If the Same 2 wins Sub Jack option is ON, the Same 2 wins the Sub Jack.)
The normal ranking of cards : A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.
In the case of no Trump, the Regular Jack and the Sub Jack do not exist.
The Enchantress option is on (in the settings) and if the mighty and queen of heart are in same trick, the queen wins. (See 7. Enchantress / Enchantress of Regular Jack)
And the Enchantress of Regular Jack option is on and if the Regular Jack and queen of dia are in same trick, the queen wins.
Not only you get the scoring cards, it is important to support your friend(s).
The Adjutant's identity remains secret until the called card is played.
The Adjutant is very interesting in the card game of Napoleon.

For example, when the Trump is heart
Enchantress(Q of heart)>Joker(Rank0)>Mighty>Joker(Rank1)>Enchantress of Regular Jack(Q of dia)>Regular Jack(jack of heart)>Joker(Rank2)>Sub Jack(jack of dia)>Joker(Rank3)>Same 2>Different 7>A of heart>K of heart>Q of heart>...>2 of heart>Joker(Rank4)>Different 3>A of the Leading Suit>...>2 of the Leading Suit>A of other suit>...>2 of other suit>Joker(Rank5)
Enchantress: The mighty and queen of heart are in the same in a trick, the queen wins. If it is not the same trick, the heart queen is a normal queen.
Enchantress of Regular Jack is also same as Enchantress.
Same 2: Everyone plays the heart suit, the 2 of the heart becomes the highest card.
Different 7 and 3: See 11. Different 7 / Different 3.


6. No Trump
If No Trump mode is on (in the settings), players can declare only a number of points without a suit.
If the Napoleon declare without Trump (no Trump), the Regular Jack and the Sub Jack do not exist.
The card ranking is Joker(Rank0)>Enchantress>Mighty>Joker(Rank1-4)>Same 2>Different 7>A of the Leading Suit>...>2 of the Leading Suit>Different 3>A of other suit>K>Q>J>...>2 of the other suit>Joker(Rank5).
In the no Trump, the play is also compulsory to follow the Leading Suit.


7. Enchantress / Enchantress of Regular Jack
If the Enchantress option is on, and the mighty and queen of heart are in the same in a trick, the queen wins.
Every time the play is compulsory to follow suit. Although the mighty is played in a trick, queen of heart can never necessarily be taken out.
In the first trick, if the Special Cards option is OFF, Enchantress and Enchantress of Regular Jack are effective. But when a No Trump round, Enchantress of Regular Jack is invalid.


8. Joker Call / Joker Hunter
If the Joker Call option is on, when 3 of club is led, the player has the Joker, has to play it.
The Joker Call only calls the Joker. It loses the Joker.
If the Joker Hunter option is on, when 3 of spade is led, the player has the Joker, has to play it.
The Joker Hunter wins the Joker anytime. But if the three Special Cards are played in the same trick, whether the Joker Hunter wins or not, it depends on the Joker Rank.
The Joker Call and the Joker Hunter are exclusion use.


9. Betrayal
If the Betrayal option is on, when the Adjutant discards the 10 of club, it is possible to select to betray or not. (It is effective after identity of the Adjutant.)


10. Get discard
The Get discard option is on. If Napoleon discards the score cards when the card exchange, the first trick winner will get them.
It is on purpos, discard the score card, then Napoleon will get it in the first trick or the Adjutant will get it. (But if the Adjutant would not be aware of it....)


11. Different 7 / Different 3
Different 7 : When all 4 suits are discarded in a trick the 7 wins regardless of the Trump. But if the Joker or the Score cards are discarded, it becomes invalid.
Different 3 : When the Trump card, the Joker and the Score cards are not discarded, and a card of the different suit is discarded in the same trick, the 3 of the Leading Suit wins. But if the 3 leads, it will be invalid.
(Both Different 7 and 3 are valid from the first trick.)


12. Rule of Completion
It is a rule that Napoleon team win or lose when they takes all 20 cards.
Siberia (Default) : If the bid is 20, they win.
Complete : They win.
Revolution : They lose regardless of a number of the bid.


13. FI (Frog Intelligence) Level
FI has 4 Levels.
Level 0 : Frogs don't think (They play a card randomly).
Level 1 : Frogs think a little.
Level 2 : Frogs think normally.
Level 3 : Frogs think well.


14. Rules & Settings
Rules
Joker (Rank:0-5): Use the Joker or not. And set the Joker Rank.
Choice of the Leading Suit: If this option is on, the Leading Suit can be specified when the Joker leads.
Use Anytime: If this option is off, when you don't have any card of the same suit of the Leading Card, you have to use the Joker. Ohterwise, you can use every card.
Exceptions of the Joker Rank :
Normal: The power of the Joker depends on the Joker Rank.
Strongest when lead: The Joker becomes the strongest when it leads. Otherwise it depends on the order of the Joker Rank.
Weakest except lead: The Joker becomes the weakest when it NOT lead. Otherwise it is the order of the Joker Rank.
Joker Call (Club 3): Use the Joker Call option or not.
Joker Hunter (Spade 3): Use the Joker Hunter option or not.
(The Joker Call and the Joker Hunter are exclusion use.)
No Trump mode: If this option is on, you can also declare Napoleon without Trump.
Enchantress (Heart Q): Use the Enchantress option or not.
Betrayal (Club 10): Use the Betrayal option or not.
Enchantress of Regular Jack (Dia Q): Use the Enchantress of Regular Jack option or not.
Get Discard: When Napoleon discards the score cards in the card exchange, the first trick winner will get them or not.
Same 2 wins Sub Jack: The Same 2 wins the Sub Jack or not.
First Trick Rules: Use each option or not. (The Joker Leads option. The Special Cards option. The Same 2 option.)
Different 7 / 3 : Use Different 7 (Different 3) option or not.
Rule of Completion : If Napoleon team get 20 cards they win or lose.
Settings
FI (Frog Intelligence) Level: AI level.
Vioce: The Voice option on/off.
Sound: The Sound option on/off.
Automatic Arrangement (1-4): The function of the automatic arrangement your cards.
1: It arranges your cards in STRONG the order from the left. After discarding the remaining cards is HORIZONTALLY moved.
2: It arranges your cards in STRONG the order from the left. After discarding the remaining cards is moved to the CENTER.
3: It arranges your cards in WEAK the order from the left. After discarding the remaining cards is HORIZONTALLY moved.
4: It arranges your cards in WEAK the order from the left. After discarding the remaining cards is moved to the CENTER.
The Joker is always in the next to the weakness card.
Motion: The Frog's Motion (Blink, Look sideways) option on/off.
Left-hander: Reverse the order of the under bar menu.


15. Scores
Napoleon team wins: Napoleon gets 2 points, the Adjutant gets 1 point.
Union team wins: Each member of Union team gets 1 point.
Napoleon wins alone: Napoleon gets 4 points.
Napoleon declare all 20 points and Napoleon team wins: Napoleon gets 4 points, the Adjutant gets 2 points.
Napoleon declare all 20 points and Napoleon wins alone: Napoleon gets 8 points.
Napoleon or Napoleon team gets no point: Each member of Union team gets 2 points.


16. Records
The Records (All records, Today's records, Recent 50 records) are displayed in the Round choose or after the game over.
The rate of Napoleon : (The number of Napoleon + The number of Standing Alone) / The number of All rounds x 100 [%]
The rate of Adjutant : The number of Adjutant / The number of All rounds x 100 [%]
The rate of Union : (The number of Union + The number of 4 Unions) / The number of All rounds x 100 [%]
The rate of Standing Alone : The number of Standing Alone / (The number of Napoleon + The number of Standing Alone) x 100 [%]
The rate of 4 Unions : The number of 4 Unions / (The number of Adjutant + The number of Union + The number of 4 Unions) x 100 [%]
The rate of Adjutant from the blind : This rate becomes the standard how many adjutant cards to pull from the blind. (The number of Standing Alone + The number of 4 Unions) / The number of All rounds x 100 [%]
Each numerical value shows the number of rounds. (The number of Napoleon : The number of Rounds of Napoleon)
